If the Finder says it cannot open a scheme because the application or translators could not be found, it means that the Finder has lost track of the Kaleidoscope Extension. To fix this, just rebuild the deskop. Alternatively, open the Extensions folder and double-click the Kaleidoscope Extension.
Blue and White G3 crashes
There is a serious bug in the video drivers on Blue and White G3s that can cause Kaleidoscope to crash, particularly in Photoshop or when switching schemes. If you are using a Blue and White G3, you must install the ATI Video Software Update 1.0, available from Apple's web site at: <http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11475>.
Cursor problems
If you use a custom cursor on a Blue and White G3 machine, the cursor may flicker or lose its bottom half. This is probably a minor bug in the Apple/ATI video acceleration software, so be on the lookout for updates from Apple. This is not a symptom of a bigger problem, so if your cursor works fine or you don't mind the glitch, then you can continue using custom cursors. Or, you can uncheck the Arrow Cursor check box in the Scheme Settings pane of the Kaleidoscope control panel.
America Online 3.0
Using America Online 3.0 can corrupt the Kaleidoscope file, causing Kaleidoscope to refuse to load at startup. This problem is fixed in America Online 4.0.
Claris Emailer
Claris Emailer windows may revert to their original size when you launch the application. Apparently, Emailer does this if it thinks the window is offscreen. However, the thicker borders of many Kaleidoscope schemes sometimes spill offscreen, triggering this behavior. This is a bug in Emailer, and there is nothing we can do about it in Kaleidoscope. To work around this, make sure your entire window, including its border, is onscreen.
MenuFonts
We have heard reports of various conflicts with MenuFonts, including problems with Microsoft Word when both MenuFonts and Kaleidoscope are running. We have not yet been able to find the cause.
Photoshop window positioning
When you switch schemes or first install Kaleidoscope, Photoshop might open new windows at the top left of the screen, instead of automatically moving them to the right of the tools palette. This is because Photoshop has lost track of the position of the tools palette. To fix this, just move the tools palette window a few pixels so that Photoshop notices where it is.
Print Shop Companion
We have received reports that the Print Shop Companion crashes shortly after launch if Kaleidoscope is active; however, the Print Shop Companion works fine on our own machines. One report indicated that this problem is triggered by Kaleidoscope's Substitute System Font feature, but we have not been able to confirm that.
Quicken 98
We have received several reports of crashes with Quicken 98. However, we have not been able to reproduce these problems, and Quicken 98 works fine with Kaleidoscope on our own machines.
